Quiet Garden

Quiet Garden

The Quiet Garden is situated in Watersfield, between the South Downs and Pulborough. It is a family home and garden at the end of a lane leading to the village recreation ground, fields and woodland. The garden is affiliated to The Quiet Garden Trust.

It is open once a month to all who enjoy the treasure of contemplation and quietness; for those who need a space to relax and reflect in companionable silence.

The vision of the Quiet Garden Trust is rooted in the Christian contemplative tradition, and seeks to provide garden spaces where people, of all faiths and denominations, and also those who are searching, are welcome to come and rest. Some may be seeking to develop their spiritual sense, others wishing simply to find a safe spiritual space.

Come alone or with others, and enjoy the peace of the house and garden. Take time to be still and relax; to look and listen and become attentive to the presence of God in all of creation;to develop creativity in prayer in whatever way appeals to you; to find stillness, simplicity and joy, perhaps through meditative reading, writing, meditation, awareness of nature, drawing or walking in the garden. Both in the house and garden, you are asked to observe a companionable silence.

The garden has many areas to sit or walk, such as the sunken garden and around the pond. There is plenty of shade in summer, and many garden birds to watch. The house has several sitting rooms (one with a hearth and log fire in winter) and the kitchen will be available for making drinks. There is ample parking and turning space in the recreation ground car park, just beyond the drive.

When you visit there will be a reflection, a meditative reading and some music to help you into silence. Visitors are then free to find a space to deepen their experience of silence and prayer in the context natural beauty. At the end of the morning you are invited to meet for a short voluntary shared reflection and a closing prayer.

We meet one Tuesday a month for a Quiet Morning from 10am till 12.30pm, on the first Tuesday of each month

Please reserve a place as numbers are limited to a small group.
